Rapido debuts its new island bed V64 campervan at the NEC

The new Rapido V64 made its first appearance at the Motorhome and Caravan Show this week.

Coming on a Fiat Ducato base vehicle, which is one of the best vans for converting to a camper, the V64 is only 6.36m long yet the designers have managed to fit in an island bed measuring 1.95 x 1.4m. If so desired, the bed’s headboard can be lifted up to give a daybed for relaxing on and also provide more rear campervan storage options.

To make this work, the side kitchen has been moved to opposite the travel bench seat, which can be accessed straight from the sliding door. A useful feature here is the table that folds out from a dedicated drawer underneath the hob in the side kitchen, which can be used by occupants of the travel bench and the swivelled cab seats. The lounge, kitchen and bedroom all have LED ambient lighting as well.

The side kitchen features a compressor refrigerator, a worktop extension, and a stainless steel hob with two burners, while the ‘van comes with Webasto 4000W heating and an 8-litre Whale gas water heater.

The camper van’s washroom features a swivelling partition for the shower, while comes with fitting such as a towel rail and a cup holder and cup. There is also an additional external shower.

An external shower should make washing any muddy boots off simple too.

Rapido is not the only brand to be showcasing new campervans at the NEC this week. Visitors to the Bürstner stand are getting to see the new Habiton HMX 6.1, a four wheel drive campervan which comes on a Mercedes Sprinter.

Malibu has also added a new model to its Relax line-up. The 640 LE XR is the second model in the range and comes with a double bed at the rear which is over 2m long on the passenger side.
