WildAx Motorhomes has unveiled its latest short wheelbase model at the Motorhome & Caravan Show at the NEC this week.
The West Yorkshire company already produces a small campervan, the Pulsar, based on a 5.4 m-long Fiat Ducato, which in years gone by was based on an even shorter Citroēn Relay.
The new model from WildAx, who are one of the best campervan conversion companies in the UK, is the Mercury and it is based on the 5.4m-long Ford Transit. The two-berth comes with the 130hp engine with 6-speed manual transmission as standard, although you can opt for the 165hp engine with 8-speed automatic transmission.
Inside there is a rear lounge with a drop-down double bed above it. When lowered and joined with the tops of the settee backrests this creates a double that is 1.82m long.

Running on Truma Combi diesel heating, the van includes a side kitchen with a 3-burner gas hob above a combined oven and grill. If you prefer to go gas-free, you can opt for a pack that gets you an induction hob in place of the gas burners and a microwave in place of the oven, an inverter and extra solar panels.
You can also opt for a 340Ah leisure battery system in place of the standard 105Ah leisure battery.
The kitchen also includes an eye-level compressor fridge above a pull-out work surface.
The van features WildAx’s new washroom with a porcelain salad bowl basin, a shower that is separate from the basin, and cubbyholes for storage with elasticated retainers.
