As a dog-owning motorhomer, these are the five Prime Day pet products I think you need

One of the best things about motorhome touring is how dog-friendly it is – there’s no need to worry about finding a hotel or holiday cottage that will accept pets, most campsites welcome well-behaved dogs, and you can take everything that you and your pet need with you in your ‘van.

There are, of course, lots of accessories that you can buy to keep your pet happy and healthy when you’re motorhoming with a dog – in fact there are so many that it can be overwhelming to choose which are worth buying and which aren’t. That’s especially true when it comes to online events such as Amazon’s Prime Day, which finishes today (23-26 June) – there are loads of accessories available, but which should you consider?

Fortunately, help is at hand – I’m a dog-owning motorhomer and I’ve had a good look through Amazon to find what I think are the most useful pet products currently on sale.

If you’re after some ideas for your family, don’t miss our pick of the products to keep you entertained on tour, either.

COTOP Dog Water Bottle

I think this dog water bottle is such a smart idea and it looks like a good price this Prime Day event, too. Usually when you take your dog out on strolls from a campsite you’ll need to carry water and a separate bowl, but this smart bottle is two-in-one. Simply fill the bottle part with fresh water then, when your pet needs a drink, press the button to release some water into the bowl part. If they don’t finish their drink, press the button again to draw the water back in. Clever stuff!

Dog Tie Out Stake

Heavy-Duty Dog Tie-Out Stake was £16.99 now £14.44 (save 15%)

If you have a dog, stakes are extremely useful on campsites – you can leave your pet securely tethered, safe in the knowledge that they can still move around and relax. There are various types of stake available, but I like the look of this one, which promises to be more sturdy than some other types. It is made of heavy-duty aluminum alloy and employs six long bolts – it’s suitable for solid, rocky ground, and comes with an L-shaped socket wrench. The 360°-rotating stainless steel hook should help prevent your dog from becoming tangled in the lead (not supplied), too.

Petsfit Foldable Soft Dog Crate Medium

Petsfit Foldable Soft Dog Crate Medium was £89.66 now £72.19 (save 19%)

As long as your dog is accustomed to – and trained in – using one, a crate such as this is super helpful when you’re away on tour. It can provide a safe, cosy place for them to rest whenever they need to take time out, and I really like these fabric versions because they’re much lighter and easier to transport than their metal counterparts. This Petsfit crate is suitable for small- to medium-sized dogs and is made with what looks to be good-quality fabrics, and sturdy mesh sides. It can be folded down neatly when not in use.

Vivifying Snuffle Mat for Dogs

Vivifying Snuffle Mat for Dogs was £16.99 now £12.31 (save 28%)

My dog – who is a very boisterous and playful Golden Retriever – has something very similar to this and it’s incredibly helpful in keeping him occupied when we’re away in the motorhome. It’s made of a tough felt-style fabric and features numerous hiding places for small treats – simply stash them away in the various locations and your dog will have to spend time looking for them. This version is washable, has a non-slip base and comes in three different colours. Note that this product is not suitable for large dog breeds or aggressive chewers.

KingCamp Raised Dog Bed

KingCamp Raised Dog Bed was £49.99 now £37.99

Every dog needs a comfortable bed to sleep on, but in the confines of a motorhome it can be tricky to find the space needed to store one. So this folding dog bed caught my eye – it’s a good size but can be collapsed down to be stored in its own handy bag when not in use. I also love the fact that it has two different surfaces – in summer, the Textilene fabric will help keep your dog cool, while another soft mat can be attached with elastic straps for winter use.
